About Us

The Center for Instructional Innovation and Mathematical Resilience (CIIMR) is a strategic academic and research hub established at Chuka University to advance evidence-based pedagogies, strengthen teacher professional practice, safeguard learners from mathematical anxiety and improve learner outcomes across educational contexts.

Centre Mandate & Focus

CIIMR advances evidence-based pedagogical innovation, strengthens teacher professional practice and improves learning outcomes through research, capacity building and community-based partnerships.

Domiciled in the Faculty of Education & Resources Development, the Centre serves as a platform for pedagogical research, innovation, professional learning and collaborative knowledge generation.

Research Focus

The Centre focuses on understanding mathematics anxiety among learners and co-designs culturally responsive interventions that improve learner confidence, participation and outcomes.

Global Collaboration

CIIMR has international collaborations spearheaded by Professors Sue Johnston-Wilder and Rosalind Weir McLellan, supported by Dr. Harrison Njaru Mbogo.

Through strong international collaborations most notably with the University of Warwick and the University of Cambridge, the Centre integrates global research expertise with local educational realities to co-design culturally responsive and context-specific instructional approaches.

Leadership & Capacity

A multidisciplinary team from Chuka University leads CIIMR, bringing expertise in teacher education, mathematics, educational leadership, curriculum studies, psychology and community engagement.
